EA Active Makes Me Feel Like Jello May 20, 2009

I received my copy of EA Active yesterday and after retrofitting the leg strap with some two inch wide velcro, I decided to start their 30 day challenge.

It ask for the intensity of workout I’d like (low, med, high) and I picked low.  I’m glad I did.  Man.  I am really out of shape.  By the end of the routine I was weak in the knees and ready for a half gallon of Edy’s Rocky Road ice cream. He he.. Just kidding.

The exercises for the first day was walking/running around a track, boxing targets, downhill skating with jumping over ramps and other generic ones like lunges and bicep curls using the included resistance band.

Even though I’m tired, I feel really good!  We’ll see how it goes tomorrow.

Trying My Hand At iPhone Development March 3, 2009

While I don’t mind working on Mac computers occasionally, I am not a Mac guy.  But there’s one thing I’ve got to tell you, the iPhone/iPod Touch is a really sweet little gadget.  I own a Touch.

It feels like liquid computing—so portable and accessible and a very fluid interface.

I started thinking about developing on this platform when me and Robin Harbron made contact with a development studio interested in farming out some work.

But, with the iPhone 3G coming out now, I’ve started to get excited about it, and last night I bought a Mac Mini.  It’s the cheapest Mac you can buy.

Yeah, that’s right.  Sam bought a Mac.  I thought it was strange that at first my credit card transaction would not go through.  Then I thought it was funny when I called American Express just to find that they put a security lock on the account and want to speak with me in person to validate the purchase.

Seems like Amex even knows “Sam doesn’t like Macs”.

Well, I hope to produce something fruitful in the next few days, and I’m hoping to make the ~$750 back to cover the cost of the Mac and would like to make another $600 or so to buy a copy of the Unity 3D engine for iPhone.

We’ll see, but I’ll keep you posted.

Just imagine.. peanut oil in a covered wok on high for ten minutes.  Rachel had asked me to get it started.  We both forgot about it until I walked out of my office to find the pan in flames.

We got the fire out and no one was hurt, but it did damage our cabinets quite a bit.

We’re thankful for God’s protection.

You know, I hear a lot about following your heart and pursuing your dreams.  I’ve heard that line most of my life.  And, while I am generally optimistic, I’ve recently realized that some of my dreams will never come true.

There are other dreams and ambitions that are much closer than the moon, but even to reach those would mean sacrificing time spent with people I love.

Perhaps I’m just having a change of heart, but I feel like it’s a really good change.  I have been blessed with good health, a loving wife and a beautiful son.  I am thankful.

On the other hand, I’m old enough to be set in a lot of my ways.

So, this is where I am right now.  I hope to blog about this and happenings in my life—perhaps a little work here and there too.  We’ll see.
